    Undertale Opinions

    Yup, this game. As of now it is the highest rated game on Metacritic, and everyone everywhere is praising it like its Heyzeus.
    For those of you who don't know, this game is a top-down JRPG style kinda game which is heavily inspired by Earthbound.
    I quite like it, certainly is something refreshing with today's market of RPG's of this type I must say. It's one of the few that allows the player the choice to not kill anything, like... at all. I wish that was in more games. I remember always trying to do that in the early Fallout games, rarely succeeding to do so.

    So anyways I ask for your opinion on this game, because you guys are the most honest community I know of. Don't hold back either, rip it apart, praise it, or somewhere in the middle.

    Oh! And this game will hate you if you reload saves! Now ain't that something!

    I'm going to be playing this bad boy pretty soon. I really like the Earthbound vibe it has going on for it. The relatively simple style of the game gives me hope that I might someday be able to crank out a little indie masterpiece beloved by all with half as much depth as this. I really like the C&C stuff. I would download and play it now but I want to give it my full attention. Pacifist play through I hear is the way to go.

    Yes, this little gem is quite inspiring. Though if you want more story, I suggest playing a neutral run of the game first. Then you should play through Pacifist. It gives the pacifist play through a whole lot more meaning

    Picked it up, probably going to go ahead and dedicate a day to it when I have the time. People seem to be quite enamored with it, I'd like to see what the fuss is all about.

    I watched an LP of it and it already looks more entertaining than 90% of shit out there.

    Well, I played through it a couple of times, and I'm probably going to play through at least once more in the future.

    This was a very charming little game. I'll probably remember it fondly for a very long time. It had a good story, interesting characters, and was told in a way that used its medium as a video game to its advantage. I really enjoyed that it was a game where reloading to make a different decision on something was something the game could recognize. In a way, it took that get out of jail free card away from you. It's still there, in a form, but the game remembers, and reminds you. But the main draw for me was definitely the characters. I wasn't really expecting it, but most of the characters managed to endear themselves to me in some way. Add to that a few characters that just seemed to be goofy jokes turning out to have some compelling depth to them makes the story have stakes that maybe you wouldn't think there would be. The fact that most of this depth isn't shoved into your face unless you actually go looking for it was nice too.

    Honestly I'd say it's worth a shot for most people. Neither the monetary or time investment is terribly large, and you'll get an rpg that seems like it's had a lot of time and care put into it in return.

    It's the most hilarious game I've played in ages. I like how they mix up the combat mechanics so they don't get boring or repetitive. I love the music, the art, pretty much everything about it is great. So far I haven't felt the need to reload a savegame to make a different choice but I'll maybe try it to see how the game reacts. I AM THE EXCITE.

    When I first saw it I thought it was a short indie RPG like many flooding the market lately. Small chance of being great, maybe good, but probably lame.

    A few days later a friend is raving about it. A few days after that many friends are and the game is spawning memes everywhere I look.

    I can tell the art and writing have some neat style and there's actual C&C with heavy affects.

    It's definitely worth playing and I'll get it at some point.

    Sincerely,
    The Vault Dweller

    It seems very neat, but perhaps overrrated. The best PC game of all time does not seem like a title it is worthy of.

    Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad. Anyone who doesn't like Undertale is a terrible person.

    @Buxbaum666
    Well that's a bit extreme.
    @AlphaPromethean
    I would still recommend the game, but I won't argue on best game of all time on any platform either. I've yet to see anything that can really have that sort of claim. However, from a writing standpoint, Undertale is a game that is rare in that it has a story that is specifically crafted to take advantage of its medium as a program that is running on your computer. It's also something of both a love letter to, and a deconstruction of classic JRPGs. The comparisons to Earthbound are apt in that regard.

    In addition, as a more personal experience to hopefully add to your likelihood of giving Undertale a shot, it's actually the first game that has actually made me laugh at its humor since New Vegas. It may not seem like much, but that's quite a feat for a game to accomplish with me. It may end up not being the case for you, but that the game intentionally made me laugh is astounding.

    Ive played it till the first town and im enjoying it, its very charming, has quite likeable characters and it made me giggle few times. I have to agree that its bit odd it gets as much praise it does. My biggest issue is the dodge combat mechanic thingie, its starting to get old already. Other than that easy to recommend at the price its sold at.

    Sorry, been quite busy lately.
    @Chromevod
    I agree completely. You really know how to put your opinions into words. I however am not too good at this. Its quite amazing really, its like you're reading my mind.
    @Buxbaum666
    Telling by your profile picture you must be some super-ultra-omni-megafan. I too find it quite humorous. I was genuinely laughing, just like what Chromevod said its the only game that made me laugh since New Vegas. Which for me is quite a feat for a game to accomplish.

    I'm not surprised by its metacritic rating, it's a simple game that executes its premise extremely well. There's really nothing to criticize. I think it's far from the best PC game ever made, but it might be the most unarguably good PC game ever made.

    Also, I like how the main character is presented as nonbinary.

    This game is pretty much the same league as The Stanley Parable for me it relies heavily on the medium to tell the story. I find this kind of games quite amusing and enjoyable.

    While I absolutely hated the "avoid the white objects" mechanics, it was justified by the core idea that sparing the opponents is harder than killing them. It made me struggle and curse the developer, but I was determined to finish it without killing

    Overall, a pretty good game, that should be played.

    Picked it up on Steam last week. I restarted about halfway through since I did a dumb early on and screwed up my pacifist route. I've put about 12 hours into it at this point and I'm just about to finish it. Final boss can't-actually-fight here I come.

    Sans is confusing me quite a bit, though. I half suspect he's related to the final boss, but I'm unsure.

    I really like Undyne, though.

    I love it, the soundtrack is just too good. Wish the game was a little bit longer tho.

    I think you posted this in the wrong forum. You want to post in the "new" NMA.
    This one here is the old archived forum that is pretty much dead.
