    Afterfall DevBlog

Nicolas Intoxicate has put up a small "DevBlog" to let us know how Afterfall is faring:
Together with the increasing number of the fansí voices we decided to reveal the mystery of Afterfall production. Thatís why we made the decision to write the first post in our Developers Blog.
Currently the work on Afterfall are very intense. And before we gonna share how much energy drinks we need each day, and how much instant noodles we eat, we need to clarify a few things:

    - Afterfall was the fansí project which has been in development for the last three years,
    - Phase of pre-production was so plentiful that we could create not one but even three games,
When starting the studio and professional phase of production the world was analyzed and effect of that was putting only a few most characteristic locations into the game,
    - The game mechanics has changed slightly, but you will still be able to find most of the features which were announced before. You will be informed about these few changes in our next posts,
    - The action takes place few years before we originally planned, and itís still nonlinear and very interesting,

Many of you worry that we cut out many interesting features Ė we will be honest with you: the game is smaller than we dreamed three years ago. However, we can assure you that it will be one of the biggest cRPG games ever,
Many of you wonder if game will ever be released, because we have been making it for a few years. It is a wrong way of thinking, as we were only on the phase of designing locations, quests and the whole Afterfall world. The actual phase of production has started in July 2008.

You need to understand that the final product will be the same Afterfall which you were waiting for, but thanks to Nicolas Games and their support, it will be much better and more professional.

In our next post you will be able to read a little about our fantastic Life System which is one of the most important features, and something you havenít seen in any other cRPG game. We are sure that you will be very excited about life it!
So, it'll be a smaller game, but it'll be more polished. Sounds good, even if a bit of a let down for those who were expecting everything they'd promised.

    Uh what?

I'm pretty sure most people's worries has always been "this game's feature-set looks unrealistic" or "the game looks too big".

Like I said when news on Nicolas Games first broke: good, I hope they slash into the design concept heavily. The game needs it.

Also, the Afterfall PR has always had a really weird tone for an indie, and that continues.

I don't like trashing fellow indie developers, but damn... guys, can you do something first and, like, hype later?

Phase of pre-production was so plentiful that we could create not one but even three games...
Only 3? Come on, don't be so modest.

The game mechanics has changed slightly, but you will still be able to find most of the features which were announced before.

You need to understand that the final product will be the same Afterfall which you were waiting for, but thanks to Nicolas Games and their support, it will be much better and more professional.
So, uh, even though some features are gone and the game is smaller in scope, it's exactly the same game, but it's also much better. Uh, what?

However, we can assure you that it will be one of the biggest cRPG games ever...
    No shit?

    ekhmm that's google translator dude....

But it doesn't change the fact that in polish this statement sounds much more natural.

I was actually referring to the above newspost (contents of that DevBlog, for instance "Currently the work on Afterfall are very intense" and "We are sure that you will be very excited about life it!"). I can see how that wasn't clear, though. My mistake.

    "postnuklearny"?

Is this a bad translation of "the main character will be named Post Nuclear Erny"?

Ah, thanks. I was curious as to what it actually meant. I figured it was a typo or mistranslation. Post-Nuclear Erny was my first thought though when I read it.

(I would use this: smiley, but it doesn't really look right for a lol smiley. If it had ears it would totally be a bunny.)

    You think this was bad?

I have nothing but love for our indie RPG developing brethren, but these guys need a serious course in professionalism.

Here is the press release they sent out to announce the launch of the new Afterfall website. I do not repost the press release here or on GB even though that's the standard action in such a case. So why didn't I do that? Read on:

Afterfall game's website officialy in the Internet

Developer Nicolas Intoxicate, which belongs to Nicholas Games, for a few weeks has been creating the computer game. The game's action is sat in a world destroyed by nuclear war. Poland after 2012 is the main terrytory of all operations.

The game itself will characterize with graphics on world level and a few unique features, like for exmaple the system of characters lives which will
    bring Aftrefall closer to reality.

"The cRPC games have not evolved in years. We will change that because Afterfall offers a few unprecedented solutions" - says the main producer
    Andrew Koloska.

Afterfall is possibly the biggest currentely created native production.

The main important feature of Afterfall game:

    1> the action provides with more than 100 hours of entartainment;
    2> the world which changes under inluence of outer occurence as well as under influence of player's actions;
    3> advanced system of characters' lives which live in postnuclear world;
4> the garphics on the world highest level.

    Visit game's website: www.afterfall.pl (http://afterfall.pl/index.php?lang=eng)

    www.whatwillbeafter.pl
Jesus H. Christ. They didn't even run it through a spell checker.

You know as a foreigner, it's not easy to write in English. You take it for granted, English is NOT easy.

I am a foreigner you dillweed.

It's not about how hard ESL is, it's about being a professional and at the very least spell-checking your press release. Nobody in the industry is going to take Afterfall seriously if they keep sending press releases like those.

I believe I thought Afterfall was just a Fallout 2 mod for a long time. Then again I don't really concern myself too much with all the announced projects just in case I happen to take a liking to one in particular and one day they announce, "Sorry! We were making false updates just to keep your hopes up. We haven't done anything yet.. but we're still hopeful that someone will come along and volunteer to do all our work for us!!... plz?"

(Fancy that, I ended up making more fun of people who say plz than I originally intended... Oops! I did it again.)

Vdweller's project looks very promising, despite me having already forgotten the name..

Yes true, a spell checker should have at least been used.

Lies! See? Proof with the last line. If your status says offline when you obviously had to be online just to post, then the rest has to be false as well.

I'm joking, but anyways I figured BN was from a non-English speaking (or at least not from the US) country based on what I read in the US 50's history debate thingy a while back. Anyways, deceptively good English, even better than most people who speak it as their native tongue.

But you can't understand some people in GTA4 at all, despite them being your most dependable buddy throughout the game (Little Jakob). Ironic, no?
