Australia by Miroslav - 23:33 -
This is a bit late but here it goes anyways... Carny Val sent me a note that Tactics was released in Australia a few days ago. Cheers for the tip!

Files by Miroslav - 23:25 -
I'll be working on a downloads section this weekend, and I promise to get it back online! If you have a file that is interesting and want to share it with other send it to me.

ALSO, (sory for caps lock, just to get your attention here), if you are one of the freaks playing multiplayer, and if you have a good character, and you want to share it with others, send it to me, I'll put it in download section.

New Game Stuff by Miroslav - 23:16 -
I've started gathering info on races in Tactics. First page is up over here. Vehicles section is also up. I'm continuing to work and play, it's a hell of a combo ;)

Vault Runner Info by Miroslav - 19:50 -
For those of you who like Vault Runner, here's some tidbit info.
We are currently working on the sequell to this game - Vault Runner 2:
Rage of the Wasteland, where the player will be brought from the
boring dungeon to the surface. Players will see the new weapons,
enemies, towns. The game right now is under the "deep development", so
no public materials are available YET, but very soon, when the general
mantainance of the site will be ready.
They are also moved to a new site, so you should check them out here.

Vault Runner is a fan based game, looking the same like the old legend Lode Runner (I remember playing this one in school on Gameboy, ahm, an entire year to be precise), but with the Fallout theme - main dude is a Vault citizen, fighting bad ass robots, blowing them with explosives and such... Certanly better than Minesweeper to kill the time.

New FOT Review! by Odin - 10:14 -
Action Trip have also posted a review of Fallout Tactics, it's a good read but there's nothing new for us veterans. Well exept the writers oppinion of Fallout Tactics, here's a snibblet:
The battlefields are enormous and the enemies come in hosts. This means that certain missions will take hours of your time. You can save your position at any time, BUT if you decide you don't need no stinkin' Save-games, you can turn that off at the beginning of the game, and your soldiers will receive 30% more EXPs. These 30% do sound tempting, but one wrong move after several hours of play can cost a lot of nerves. I'll leave that up to your masochistic little minds.
Hehe, well safely to say I'm not one of those (puh!!).

Wanna write post-apocalyptic fiction? by Odin - 8:50 -
Well here's your chance, I found this on the Fallout board. For those of you interessted in writing...ack!It's too early to write much, just read this:
I would like to invite any writers (and readers!) on this board to take a look at "Apocalypse Fiction Magazine," a new online fiction magazine dedicated to post-apocalyptic fiction.

The first issue will premiere in late April, and we are still looking for art, stories, series, comic book art, and Flash animation.

www.apocalypsefiction.com

Submission Guidelines can be found on the site. thanks for taking the time to read my shameless endorsement;) Actually, I'm a contributing member to this list, as well as a huge fan of FO1, FO2, and even FOT, and I thought that ya'll might be interested...
Spotted at The Official Fallout Board.

Bonus Mission by Miroslav - 2:09 -
As I mentioned earlier, all newsletter subscribers received a copy of their bonus mission which is being supplyed on a 4th bonus pre-order cd. Anyway, if you like to have it, just grab this file. If it reports a 404 error, be patient, it's a much requested file.

Bonus mission is a Springfield location. One big thanks to Kevin Owen for giving me the file even before I got Tactics! :) Cheers

Waiting for FOT? by Odin - 14:51 -
According to Yurg over at Freelancer this is the release plan for the other FOT versions:
The last news about British Tactics release on about March 30th has been confirmed. European English language version will reach store shelves at the beginning of April. One week later the game will be shipped to Italian distributors and to those who is planning to sell English version (like Novy Disk in Russia). According to information we have, original German, French and Spanish version releases may be delayed significantly (up to 2 months).
Just as I reported earlier (about the british version).

FOT Missing Images Patch! by Odin - 10:16 -
Spotted this over at Games Domain, for those of you who have this problem and need to download the patch here are different mirrors all over the world.

Update on the Patch! by Odin - 8:33 -
I forgot to post this yesterday, I got en email from Karl Burdack about the upcoming patch for FOT (no not the one that fixes the dissapearing items) and here's what he said:
We intend to send it to QA tomorrow or the day after, we have addresses most of the bugs being reported on the boards. We have also fixed some problems such as multiplayer character limit, the point value is now set PER character instead of per team. We fixed this due to feedback from online players.
Sweet!! Thanks Karl!! =)

Tactics - a Change of Name? by Miroslav - 0:43 -
A lot of you don't think that Microforte did a bad job of implementing Fallout's retro look into Tactics. This may be correct [I'm trying to play as the neutral guy here ;) ], but the quality of the game as a strategy game is quite nice (although I think it's still beyond the Jagged Alliance). Anyway, here's something that I ripped from our forums. If you'd rename Tactics, what would it be?

Sellout Tactics: The Markethood of Steal
Whoreout Tactics: Brothelhood of Steel
Throwout Tactics. Brotherhood that Steals.

These are my 3 favorites :)

Note: This is only fun, no offense intended towards the Tactics ;)

Items Update by Miroslav - 0:01 -
Thanks to several people for mailing me about the problems with the Items page and Netscape browsers. There was some error in the program that generated the code for the page, but it's fixed now. It's working in my Netscape 4.74, if you encounter any problems, please mail me.

Also, I'm adding new weapons and armours, mostly without pictures (but they'll be added later). Vehicle page is also comming. Check back.

Fallout Tactics Kennel Club! by Odin - 10:02 -
This site is for all those who love both kennel and Fallout Tactics:
Bless the makers of Fallout Tactics for they have given us something special - Man's Best Friend! I know of nowhere else where you can design and play your own dog against others! Are you tired of getting splattered by a Pancor Jackhammer or caught in a sniper crossfire? Do you have a certain... pack mentality? Well, the Kennel Club may be what you're looking for! The Kennel Club is just a Game Room Name on GameSpy Arcade I thought of after playing the full version for a couple days. You may start your own Kennel Club rooms if you want.
I'd recommend you check out the rules, hehe..

Small Fot Article by Odin - 9:55 -
Data from Evil Avatar have posted a small piece on Fallout Tactics, what he thinks of it etc.
The look and feel of the game is incredible, the artwork and design of the levels is superb. I haven't tried out the multiplayer aspect so I really can't comment on that, there are various clans a la Quake forming out there to play the game for you folks that have the time.

So far I would recommend picking this one up if you are a fan of the squad based combat genre and the Fallout world in general. Pure RPG fans might be put off as the RPG elements are really scarce to nonexistent.

New Review of FOT by Odin - 9:38 -
PC.IGN have finally joined the club and reviewed Fallout Tactics, it's not a long one and quite positive to FOT. They gave it a 8.3 out of 10, here's the low down:
But that's no surprise by now. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel does just about everything right. The only problem is that there's too much of it. After a certain point, enough is enough. But while your attention holds out, this game is incredibly fun and challenging. Hopefully, Fallout Tactics will serve as a model for future genre benders as we get closer and closer to the ultimate game -- the MMORPGRTSFPS about a super-intelligent racecar that likes to steal ancient artifacts from temples filled with lava.

Update on the Patch!! by Odin - 8:08 -
Karl sent me word on the upcoming patch for Fallout Tactics, it's quite large:
COMMON ISSUES:
==============================
CD ERRORS
----------
It appears that many CDs had a corruption problem on CD3 during duplication.
These bad CDs are the cause of missing images for items etc for some users.
Vehicles and doors will also not appear if you have one of the CDs from this
bad batch. Naturally those of us at Micro Forte are disappointed that this
has occurred.

Interplay is still looking into the cause, but for now either exchange your
copy for another from the store you bought it at, or send the copy to
interplay for replacement. Also calling their tech support might be a good
idea.

FREEZE ON BLACK STARTUP SCREEN
------------------------------
Symptoms:
Game hangs on startup, Game gives you a black screen, or Sound is choppy.

Cause:
Miles sound system asks for DirectSound preferred game device.
DirectSound is using the Modem Wave converter (or other device) as the
default game device.

Fix:
Open up Multimedia configuration in the Windows Control panel
Under the Audio Tab change the Preferred device to the name of your sound
card (eg. SB Live! Wave Device)

Notes:
The default used by DirectSound can be seen by running DxDiag.exe (found in
windows system or system32 directory).
Click to Sound tab.
See the Device Id field.

Note: The coming patch contains a workaround that will fix this.

MISSION 03 GATE
----------------
There is a gate in mission 3 that will only open once. Unfortunately if
your characters are in the way of the gate, it will not open, and there is
no way to re-open it. We are looking into a way to fix this. For now, make
sure that when you use the switch for it the first time; keep all your guys
clear of the door.

Note: the coming patch will fix this issue.

FUTURE PATCH FIXES
-------------------
We've been working hard to fix problems reported by users. Here is a list
of known problems that we have fixed so far, and will be in the patch coming
soon.

LATEST FIXES:
GUI
- Fixed nasty crash with recruit pool. Fixed other recruits pool problems
such as characters losing their progress.
- Multiplayer screen remembers last IP address typed in
- Fixed a bug in non-english versions with accent characters.

GAME
- Fixed duration of drug and other consumable effects
- Path finding more robust during collisions.
- Recruits correctly gain rank now.
- Special encounters correctly save now.
- Fixed armor values bug for recruits.
- AI is correctly using over watch mode during turn-based play. It should
now be harder to exploit turn-based against the AI.
- Fixed bug that may have been causing the main character to become last
squad member.
- Swift leaner perk correctly gives +5% XP instead of 1 XP
- The science bonus to criticals on robots is working properly

MISSIONS
- The broken ladder in St. Louis should now be fixed.
- Mission 1 has a lot more healing loot.

VEHICLES
- The APC is no longer higher than walls, and thus no longer becomes stuck
indoors.
- Fixed vehicle and character duplication bug
- Stopped vehicle losing inventory when left behind on maps

SOUND
- Black Screen of Death. New DirectSound device detection to prevent lockup
of Tactics on startup. If the client machine has an invalid device set as
default, FOT will ignore it and search for a usable device.

ENGINE
- Sprite and tile data memory management fixed so Tactics no longer uses up
all available virtual memory during extended play. This should also fix
some of the random crashes that have been occurring.

MULTIPLAYER
- Changed point limit to apply per character not per team. This should sort
out the major imbalance when players took one super character instead of a
squad.
- Experience and level-ups now propagated through multiple maps
- Levelling works correctly in TB multiplayer.

FIXES PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED:

SOUND
- Plays sound when using shortcut keys to switch between textlog / minimap
- Vehicle engine volume lowered in TB when not vehicles turn
- Fixes to deal with black startup screen lockup.

GAME
- Camera centers on players actors when reentering missions
- Tweaked barter skill calculations so that the BAD pricing side of the
scale (when you have worse skill) changes twice as fast as you put up skill.
And the GOOD side of the scale (with better skill) changes in a more linear
way. Basically I fixed the math.
- Dead large actors (Behemoths etc) are no longer ethereal (cant walk
through them)
- Non bos human races can use first aid skill etc
- Fixed random encounters chance so that frame rate does not alter the
chance of encounters, as a result it should be more consistent on all
machines.
- Fixed nasty recruit pool bugs
- Fixed errant stat changes from hand items
- Free heal for winded/concussed whenever heal rate kicks in (each hour)
- Fixed problem where vehicles would keep moving when arriving on a new map
- PathFind - Fixed problem with large critters and some ladders

GUI
- Added non-living health descriptions (undamaged to destroyed)
- Stance & sentry buttons only reflect state of group if all squad members
are in the same state, otherwise they are all unchecked
- Perks window closes when switching to another actor that cannot take any
perks
- Fixed up target window button position
- fixed sticking buttons problem
- disabled save in multiplayer
- Cannot quicksave from barter window, and many other fullscreen windows.
- Minimap: Vehicles are white when you occupy them otherwise gray
- Limited minimap zoom, because it was causing performance problems.
- Can now use steal commands to easily loot from one squad member to
another.

MULTIPLAYER
- Fixed crash bugs involving kicking and session lost in startup screens.
- Re-enabled kick option on readiness screen.
- Fix to observer chat
- Server screen: When setup changes, the server remembers what player was
selected.
- Fixed <+p> problem on word wrap in multiplayer chat.

All the feedback so far is appreciated.

Lead Programmer, Fallout Tactics.

Cheers to Karl for emailing me!! =)

Patch Released by Miroslav - 20:12 -
Interplay has released a patch for Fallout: Tactics. This is only if you don't see the items in your inventory. Guess I'm lucky and don't have to download 75 megs! Yes, you read that correctly, 76 megs! Here's the official info:
Implements 'spr-sprites_0.bos' file, in cases where certain users have reported missing images in their inventory. To use this patch, Fallout Tactics must first be installed. After downloading the FOT_3CDPatch_032301.exe, double click on the FOT_3CDPatch_032301.exe to begin the installation process. Once initiated, follow the onscreen instructions. The installer will automatically place this single file in the correct Fallout Tactics installed folder location (default path - C:\Program Files\14 Degrees East\Fallout Tactics\core\). The correct size of the installed file should indicate 86,937,840 bytes
Anyway, here's the link: Fallout Tactics Inventory Items Patch

Fallout Tactics UK! by Odin - 13:13 -
According to Shadow Paladin, Interplay UK have said that the UK release of Fallout Tactics will be out this Friday (30th) and not the 13th of April as all the stores have on their release scedules.
They also said that they wont offer support on the US version.

FOT Review at Gamepower! by Odin - 8:12 -
GamePower have reviewed Fallout Tactics and gave it a 3.5 out of 4 possible. But they found some issues also, here's a snibblet:
Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood Of Steel is a must-have for anyone who likes the series -- or tactical strategy in general. The control is deep and refined, the graphics are excellent, and, most important, the gameplay is incredibly entertaining. All in all, this is a fine addition to the highly regarded series.

Problems with the BOSViewer? by Odin - 7:57 -

Wasteland Half-Life Updated! by Odin - 9:56 -
Gaist updated the Wasteland Half-Life page two times this weekend, where he explains why he haven't updated in a while (playing FOT..understandable!) and he has posted two new images. A P_model image (it's what you see other players holding in-game) and a gib model (parts from the opponents, when you've killed them). They're kick ass, go and see them!!!

FOT Movies!! by Odin - 9:44 -
Gamespot have released some more Fallout Tactics movie clips, actually they're ingame movie clips. So for those of you who haven't downloaded the demo or purchased the game can all see some "real-life" action.

Email Problems by Miroslav - 1:12 -
During the last few days, Gamestats mail server had some problems, so if you emailed me and got that message BOUNCED BACK, email me again. Thanks...

Word from the tech is that these errors should all stop when we move to a new server... anytime soon I hope so...

Word on Editors by Miroslav - 22:18 -
If you're not satisfied with the amount of multiplayer maps supplied with Tactics and anxiously waiting for editors, this might be interesting. It looks like the editors won't be released before the patch. This is probably because they want to make it compatible with new version, if there is a new version. I know that Fallout 1 and 2, after update had a new save game format and such... Just my $0.02

Krazi Contest Results by Miroslav - 4:21 -
Contest is finished and Krazi posted the winners, results and their works. See it over at the contest page.

This one is my favorite, but it was "only" a runner up...

Items Added by Miroslav - 3:10 -
I've added tons of weapons stats in the items section. There are tons of weapons in the game, which is somewhat nice. Anyway, I'm continuing to play, and entering other stats as well. Be back for more updates.

Bonus Mission by Miroslav - 23:32 -
Just a quick post, don't have time, playing Tactics. If anyone cares for a bonus mission that is supplied on a bonus pre-order cd, I'll have it available in Monday for download. During the first week, only people subscribed to newsletter shall get them. Sign up now!

Anyway, Tactics is not that good as I anticipated, it laks a lot of original Fallout. The opponents aren't very tough, expect deathclaws (it appears that single shot do them higher damage than burst). I'm filling up a weapons list, and fixing stuff from demo. See ya soon!

New FOT Review!! by Odin - 10:28 -
Gamespy have gone and posted a review of Fallout Tactics, where they gave it an overall score of 89/100 (90 on design and 87 on technical).
In the end, Fallout: Tactics is an absolute masterpiece -- it's hard to express my enjoyment of this game in words.
There are also some screenies from the game posted there.

FOT Patch Update!!! by Odin - 8:57 -
Good old Tony Oakden from Micro-Fort dropped in the forums and posted this little baby:
Quick update from here in Sunny OZ,

There is a patch being finished now which will fix most of the bugs reported on the board! Trouble is if we replied to everyone we would be too busy to implement the fixes but be assured we hear you! It has to be QA's so I am guessing the end of next week at the earliest.

Pause mode and balancing of multi-player will have to wait a bit though as they will be major changes.

Game play problems we reply to when we think there is a genuine need but it seems to me that most of the problems being reported have been dealt with in earlier posts and have just dropped of the end of the board.

We don't really have time to do a FAQ so if a fan could do it it really would help us out!

Currently we are finishing the localized versions. The German has gone gold and the French is now coming together. Then there is double byte enabled stuff for the Korean to sort out so we are still busy and still committed to the game.
Sweet!!!

Rant! by Odin - 8:46 -
Just thought I'd post this one, since it was hilarious.I guess you can figure out for yourself why:
Legislation for a British Columbian classification scheme for video games has been announced -- and it is similar to the classification scheme of the ERSB. The proposed legislation dictates that store owners would be required to store mature video games on a separate shelf so parents can distinguish between them and milder fare. Adult games will have to be stored in a separate room from other games in the same manner as adult films. The director of film classification will review adult and mature video games for obscene or violent content and will be able to ban them from sale or rental in B.C. under the same criteria applied to films. Conditions will be imposed for selling or renting video games so minors cannot sample, rent or purchase those classified as mature or adult. A board will be established to help the government monitor the ratings scheme’s effectiveness and to provide advice.
Seems like we have to visit the adult section to get out Fallout, hehe...

Torn Preview! by Odin - 8:39 -
Daily Radar have posted a preview of Torn, not alot of info there but there where this little snibblet:
"It's like a mix between Fallout and Planescape," said Feargus Urquhart, Director on the title. "It won't be like the previous Black Isle games, as this game is not based in the Dungeons & Dragons world." Instead, an entirely new fantasyland has been created, although some of the typical trappings are there. "Sure, there's humans, elves, and the like, but there are also new playable characters that should liven up the mix."
I'll stop posting info about Torn now, since it isn't really related to Fallout and seeing that I would rather that BIS announced Fallout 3 than this oh-let's-dump-another-crappy-D&D-Game, nuff said!!

First TORN Interview! by Odin - 8:32 -
With the announcement of TORN,the RPGVault.IGN took it upon themself to make the first interview with Dave Maldonado and Ken Rosman of Black Isle.
Jonric: Let's talk some more about the character development system. To begin with, what kinds of changes have you made to the SPECIAL system used in the Fallout games, and what degree of choice will players have in creating their starting characters?

Dave Maldonado: This is an area where we hope TORN will truly shine. Essentially we've taken the Fallout method for dealing with character creation and just added "more." We've got new skills (like magic, of course), new Traits, new Perks, and of course new races.

For those unfamiliar with the Fallout series, it pretty much allows players to make any sort of character they like in both a material and immaterial capacity - material meaning race, gender, skill set, and so on, immaterial meaning personality and demeanor. TORN will let gamers play through the game however they like, whether they're a maniacal dwarf alchemist obsessed with building the most destructive golem ever imagined, an axe-wielding female ogre determined to make the world a safer place for her children, a treacherous sidhe rogue determined to become the wealthiest mortal in Orislane, or a noble-minded crusader who's too stupid to realize that the warhorse he just bought is a donkey.
If you ask me, Fallout 3 would be a better game to start developing than yet another D&D Game. There are also some screenies from TORN there.
Link: Torn Interview

Torn Announced!!! by Odin - 8:24 -
Remember the project Team Torment was working on, the one that would use Fallout's SPECIAL system only in another setting. Well Killian of Duck And Cover let me know that Black Isle have announced the project as TORN.
"With TORN, we've taken the best elements from Fallout, a completely original fantasy world, and combined it with real-time combat," stated Feargus Urquhart, Black Isle Studios Division Director. "It's pretty much everything our fans have been asking for since we produced the original Fallout series." TORN contains a skill-based character system that allows for innumerable approaches to any problem in the game, whether through combat, guile, or diplomacy. Utilizing items of the player's own creation, four different realms of magic, and enough specializations and abilities to make every character unique, TORN will take the player through a twisting, epic tale of noble allies, vile treachery, vengeful tyrants and maddened gods that will set the precedent for fantasy and adventure games to come.

Starlance is ready! by Odin - 10:04 -

The event we have been waiting for is here! Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel has been released to the general Public. No more waiting..

To go with that, we have setup reporting for the full version. You can now report those games you've been playing. There is also a new topic in the forum for you to make your comments in.

Character sharing in Tactics! by Odin - 9:04 -
A fellow named Andrew Pellerano have made a little program which makes it possible to share characters from FOT.
Fallout Tactics Custom Share (is) a slightly useful program that allows you to enter the specs on your custom characters and save them into a pretty text file to store on your computer or pass along to your friends. The program is in its beta stages and will change if the demand rises.

Interview with Leonard Boyarsky! by Odin - 15:16 -
GamesMania have done an interview with former Fallout maker Leonard Boyarsky, the main issue is about the upcoming Arcanum (looks sweet!) but there was this little snibblet:
GM: Are you going to have any strange random encounters like the ones in Fallout? If so, can we use the World Editor to add some to our own maps?

LB: Arcanum has a different tone than Fallout, so there won't be any encounters like finding a crashed flying saucer, or things of that nature. Besides those things were already done in Fallout one and two, and we don't want to continually repeat ourselves. There is quite a bit of humor in Arcanum, but it is presented differently than it was in Fallout.

FOT Review at Daily Radar! by Odin - 9:41 -
Daily Radar have also posted a review of Fallout Tactics, where they agrue that FOT is an RPG. This statement comes from the use of the SPECIAL system, the sidequests, random encounters and all the different endings you can have. Here's a snibblet about the graphics and sound:
The graphics, while sprite-based and from the third-person isometric viewpoint, are a major upgrade from those of the previous Fallout games. The wasteland looks fantastic -- Mel Gibson in black football pads could have popped up anywhere. Added onto the graphics are great production elements. Voiceovers are done by both R. Lee Ermey (Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket) and Kurtwood Smith (the dad on That '70s Show). Ambient wasteland sounds are always playing in the background, almost every NPC has at least a few different lines of funny dialogue, and the cinematics are simply fantastic.

They've also posted a Tips page about Fallout Tactics, where they explain some basic tactics and hints.

First FOT Review! by Odin - 8:55 -
Gamespot have posted a 2 page review of Fallout Tactics, giving it a 8.3. It seems the only beef the Gamespot guys had with FOT was the number of options it had and a poor manual, which was disorganized (ChrisT what have you done?? hehe..j/k).But get this:
The turn-based modes are the best way to play the game, if only because they're the only modes in which you have much control. Of the two turn-based modes, squad-based is better. In this mode, the game plays much like Jagged Alliance or X-COM: UFO Defense--each member of your squad takes his or her turn, and then each member of the opposing squad does the same. In individual turn-based mode, characters move in order of their speed, much as in the Fallout role-playing games. This mode is less suited for a strategy game, if only because the lengthier firefights in Fallout Tactics require more team coordination.
Now what did I SAY, heh? When the first demo came out I bitched about the turn based and wanted a system similar to JA2, and we got it (Thanks again guys!!).

There is a gate in mission 3 that will only open once. Unfortunately if your characters are in the way of the gate, it will not open, and there is no way to re-open it. We are looking into a way to fix this. For now, make sure that when you use the switch for it the first time; keep all your guys clear of the door.

FUTURE PATCH FIXES
-------------------
We've been working hard to fix problems reported by users. Here is a list of known problems that we have fixed so far, and should be available eventually in the patch.

SOUND
- Plays sound when using shortcut keys to switch between textlog/minimap
- Vehicle engine volume lowered in TB when not vehicles turn
- Fixes to deal with black startup screen lockup.

GAME
- Camera centers on players actors when reentering missions
- Tweaked barter skill calculations so that the BAD pricing side of the scale (when you have worse skill) changes twice as fast as you put up skill. And the GOOD side of the scale (with better skill) changes in a more linear way. Basically I fixed the math.
- Dead large actors (Behemoths etc) are no longer ethereal (cant walk through them)
- Non bos human races can use first aid skill etc
- Fixed random encounters chance so that frame rate does not alter the chance of encounters, as a result it should be more consistent on all machines.

- Stance & sentry buttons only reflect state of group if all squad members are in the same state, otherwise they are all unchecked
- Perks window closes when switching to another actor that cannot take any perks
- Fixed up target window button position
- fixed sticking buttons problem
- disabled save in multiplayer
- Cannot quicksave from barter window, and many other fullscreen windows.
- Minimap: Vehicles are white when you occupy them otherwise gray
- Limited minimap zoom, because it was causing performance problems.
- Can now use steal commands to easily loot from one squad member to another.

MULTIPLAYER
- Fixed crash bugs involving kicking and session lost in startup screens.
- Re-enabled kick option on readiness screen.
- Fix to observer chat
- Server screen: When setup changes, the server remembers what player was selected.
- Fixed <+p> problem on word wrap in multiplayer chat.

All the feedback so far is appreciated.

Karl Burdack
Lead Programmer, Fallout Tactics.
Micro Forte, Canberra
If you have anymore problems then the ones posted here, go and post it at The Official Fallout Board.

New Interview with Chris T by Odin - 8:21 -
The French Vault have conducted a small interview with Chris Taylor, where they talk a little about Fallout Tactics.
Do you enjoy be calling ChrisT ? :)
Chris:
Not particularly, no. I'm not a fan of organized religion, nor do I subscribe to any particular faith, but I'm fairly spiritual and it strikes me as a little blasphemous. But I subscribe more to the live and let live theory.

First Impressions of FOT by Odin - 10:36 -
Computer Games Online have posted a First impressions of Fallout Tactics article, here's the low-down:
From what we've seen so far, Fallout Tactics should appeal to anyone who likes the Fallout gameworld and loves the combat system of the RPGs. While you have a fair degree of leeway choosing your squad members and equipment, the game is linear, and you don't have the sort of freedom to wander about that you had in the role-playing games. You do, however, get some very interesting custom-built missions, and a full multiplayer system with the chance to play a Deathclaw. Oh, and the manual promises driveable, fightable vehicles, too. Seems worth a six-pack of Nuka-Cola and a box of Mentats to me.
They've also posted some screenshots, so go and have a look.
SPOILER ALERT!! They've included some info and screenshots that contains spoilers!!

Another Developer Diary by Miroslav - 15:11 -
RPG Vault has released another Developer Diary by Chris Taylor. This time it really looks as the last in series. Basically, it's nothing more than a "thank you for working with me" good-bye note.

Really cheers to Microforte guys for trying their best with Tactics. I hope they get a better job in the future.

Oh yes, and a link: Developer Diary part 7

Tactics being delivered by Miroslav - 15:03 -
Few people reported that they received their copy of Tactics. Well, if you're eager to get it, and haven't pre ordered, move your butt to the nearest store with a sleeping bag. Others, like me, wait till it gets at $5.00 price... In a two years or something...

Have fun playing.

Cheers to Kevin Owen for mentioning this.

Furthermore i've posted a poll in the forum about the close-combat-weapon you want to see in Fallout, go there and answer!

WHL Press Release by Odin - 8:41 -
Gaist from the WHL crew have posted this press release, it covers their work on Beta 2.5 and what's to come in the future. Here's a snibblet about the Beta 3:
The Future; Beta 3's expansion focus will be the inclusion of the Power Armor scenario; mechanized suits with heavy armor, targeting aids, and other enhancements along with their own arsenal of heavy weapons take on a large team trying to stop them at any cost. The other expansion is the 'tribe wars', which pits a team of unique, heavily armed characters who only live once against a horde of tribesmen. It's a lot harder to survive then it sounds, and has proven to be immensely entertaining in action. Also, we may elect to incorporate proper vehicles in Beta 3, as we have devised conceptual means of producing massive outdoor maps utterly devoid of r_speeds.
Sweet!!! I'm really looking forward to this!! =)

Press Release from Micro-Fort by Odin - 8:12 -
Yesterday Micro-Fort emerged with this press release on the current situation:
Company Intensifies Focus on Upcoming MMOG Titles Using the BigWorld Engine.

Canberra, ACT, Australia - 12th March, 2001 - Micro Fort confirmed today rumors that a portion of its Fallout Tactics development team had been laid off in response to changing development strategies within the company. "The Fallout Tactics team has helped Micro Fort emerge as a leader in strategy game development," says John De Margheriti, Micro Fort's CEO. "We're saddened to lose any of the talented team that helped make this incredible title, but our current goal - finalizing the BigWorld MMOG engine - requires us to concentrate our resources on client/server and tool development for that system. The remaining Canberra staff, which includes the producer, lead programmer, lead designer, and lead artist from the Fallout Tactics team, is now working with our Sydney studio and is completely focused on bringing this new technology to market. This restructuring is in no way a reflection on the talents of the people let go, it is instead a response to changes in the gaming industry and our focus as a developer." In addition to the team leaders, nearly all of the senior programming and art staff have been retained in the recent corporate restructuring.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Interplay has and continues to be a strong supporter of Micro Fort and the companies enjoy an excellent working partnership. While no announcements have been made so far regarding future titles, Micro Fort has enjoyed working with Interplay and looks forward to the chance to do so again in the future. "Interplay has been a very supportive publisher," says De Margheriti, "and we're very pleased with the opportunity they've given us to make our own mark on the Fallout license.

Micro Fort is in discussions with a number of publishers in regards to the use of the BigWorld MMOG technology both for licensing and for MMOG development by Micro Fort in both of its two studios. The BigWorld engine is a unique approach to massively multiplayer gaming that not only allows tens of thousands of people to play in the same world without sharding but also solves the challenges of typical online gaming: bandwidth, load balancing and level of detail. The BigWorld server architecture is based on modern distributed object patterns. It has been designed to be free of limitations and resolve problems demonstrated in all existing MMOG implementations. The system has been in development for over two years and will be unveiled at the upcoming E3 show in Los Angeles, CA. The BigWorld engine is available for licensing and interested parties should contact Micro Fort at licensing@microforte.com. Further announcements about BigWorld and upcoming games that will be using the advanced technology will be made in the weeks to come.

Micro Fort continues to be one of the largest developers in Australia boasting over 40 employees in two studios located in Sydney and Canberra. Further information about Micro Fort and its products can be found on our newly updated website at http://www.microforte.com.
We here at NMA hope Micro-Fort have a smashing success with the upcoming MMORPG, and we hope to hear more from them (ala FOT2 style)!!!

Micro-Fort Getting the boot! by Odin - 9:57 -
Interplay has gone and totally screwed Micro-Fort, yes you are reading correct. When I was gone this weekend, information leaked and it turns out that Interplay had promised Micro-Fort that they would fund further plans on Fallout Tactics (Expansion packs) and of course FOT 2. Now Interplay all of a sudden found out that seeing that they had spent so much money on BG2 and seeing that two other (or more) Fallout titles are in planning, that the marked would be flooded with Fallout titles and they dumped their plans with Micro-Fort.
The result were as following, Micro-Fort had to lay off Half of the Fallout Tactics staff and the rest had to take a pay-cut.

Our heart and soul go out to the Micro-Fort team that have done a great job on Fallout Tactics and have also done a great job at interacting with the fans!!

Update on Fallout Tactics!! by Odin - 13:46 -
You guys are maybe wondering when Fallout Tactics ships, well according to Krazi the release date is the 15th of March, and Chris T said this on the board:
Pre-orders ship the same time as the boxes go out to the distributors. The distros have to turn around and ship to the retailers.

About a week from the start of duplication (which was this morning) before all the boxes are packaged and shipping begins.
So there you guys have it, oh and for those of you who still haven't figured it out Fallout Tactics have gone GOLD.

Fallout Tactics Gone GOLD!! by Odin - 8:17 -
Yes my friends the moment we all been waiting for, Fallout Tactics has gone gold. Which mean that they've finished the game, now all we have to do is wait until it ships, here's the info I got from Heather Greer (PR Person at Interplay):
14 Degrees East, a division of Interplay Entertainment Corp., proudly announced today that the highly anticipated game, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, has GONE GOLD!
Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel will be available at retail stores nationwide soon!

Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel expands the Fallout universe into new directions. It is the first game to bring multiplayer gaming to the Fallout series. It adds true vehicular combat (tanks, APCs and even a Dune Buggies). The Fallout tactical combat system has been refined.
The consequences of the players actions have an impact on the storyline and mission development. The player has complete control over his party members, unlike previous Fallout games. Mutants, robots, two-headed cows, gangers and ghouls are all targets for pistols, flame-throwers, rocket launchers and energy weapons.
Players have the choice of a new continuous turn-based mode for faster action or the traditional turn-based mode for more tactical gameplay.

Thanks to Heather Greer (Interplay) and all the others who emailed me about this!!

BOS = Mafia? by Odin - 12:23 -
In the interview Jc (Vault13) conducted with Dan Levin, Dan made the following statement:
The Brotherhood is not around to police the world. They're more like the mafia than any other organization. Your town needs protection? Fine. No problem. Just give us some of your children and a good percentage of your resources. Oh! Don't give us any *%$# or we'll burn your house down and put your family into one of our "Wasteland Famous" labor camps.
Which upset some Fallout fans, after some discussion on the board about this Ed Orman came to the rescue and made this statement:
Hold up folks.

I think Dan was just getting a bit carried away with his analogy there.

There are aspects of the Brotherhood that are fascistic, especially our splinter faction, but they're not really comparable to the mafia.

I think a better analogy would be that the Brotherhood is like a benevolent dictator. They're absolutely convinced that they are doing good, fighting the good fight. They know in their hearts that technology is the key to saving the world, and they also know that some people might need a little encouragement to see it their way.

Like you’d expect, there are both good and bad people within the Brotherhood. Some of them have a strong sense of honor, and others are a little more pragmatic. Expect to meet both in Fallout: Tactics.
So there you have it..

Rant by Odin - 10:01 -
There have been some news posting the last week on other Fallout sites, which contains spoilers. We, here at NMA, do not endorse these spoilers and we thought we all had an agreement about these spoilers.
This is the simple reason why I or Miroslav haven't posted anything about these spoilers.

Interview With Dan Levin by Odin - 9:54 -
Seeing that Dan Levin is going to leave 14 East, JC have conducted an interview with him. Here's a snibblet:
JC: There have been people saying that Fallout Tactics isn't really a Fallout game. What do you say to them?

Dan: I'd tell them to "Kiss my &*%! And if they have any $#@&%, they?ll meet me in the parking lot!" (Deep breath and chuckle)

Fallout Tactics IS A SPIN OFF of Fallout and Fallout 2. We arent trying to be Fallout 3. Black Isle will do Fallout 3 in time and I?m sure it?s going to rock, in full RPG style.

Fallout Tactics centers on combat first. We removed some RPG elements and added more tactical game play. We do have a very RPGish story with the player controlling the development of his/her squad.

So "Try it, you'll like it".

Fallout Tribes 2 TC by Odin - 10:10 -
Well now remember Wasteland Half-Life? Some other guys have started working on a Fallout TC (Total Conversion) for Tribes 2, read here:Fallout is a Total Conversion (that means that it modifies every aspect of the game used as base) for Tribes 2. The story behind this TC is that behind the movies Mad Max and Waterworld: the mankind was almost totally exterminated by a nuclear war, only few people survived to the radiations and gathered themself in little tribes for protect themself by the other tribes. It's a cruel world and the wars between the tribes for the ownership of the precious fuel are frequent.Link: Fallout - Tribes 2 TC

Designer Diary Part VI by Miroslav - 7:02 -
Rpg Vault released yet another, and the last part in their Fallout: Tactics Designer Diary series. In this part 6 Chris speaks of game balancing, tweaking and "reality".
There are factors that you need to examine when balancing a multiplayer game:
* Is there any one weapon that is dramatically more powerful than any other without any sort of negative balance?
* Is there a character design that is dramatically more powerful?
* Does the game resolve around one tactic?
* For every successful tactic is there a successful counter-tactic? (The rock-paper-scissors theory of game balance)
* Most important of all: is it fun?

All of this occurs in a process of continual tweaking. Make little changes, play the game, make some more changes, play the game, see if any of your recent changes messed up earlier changes, play the game and so on. It's a long process.
My suggestion for a must read!
